Sector 9 Gullwing Sidewinder Longboard Truck Review 2020

Sector 9 Gullwinder longboard truck has an included double kingpin setup, unlike most longboard trucks that have just the one pin.

The dual kingpin setup lets the handles rotate quite a bit more than usual ones, and this should allow you to steer with a much narrower curvature than you would be able to on a regular longboard.

In addition to the supernormal steering, the double kingpin is quite efficient in getting the most out of your kickbacks.

Sector 9 has got a huge reputation for its high-quality products. Today I am going to review the sector 9 gullwing longboard truck to help you decide if you should buy it or not.

But first, what is a longboard truck exactly?

A longboard truck is what goes underneath your longboard type skateboards, with a T shape and a baseplate that is attached to the body of the board. The handles on the side let you connect the wheels so yes, it is definitely a compulsory part.

Let’s begin this sector 9 gullwing sidewinder longboard truck review.

A staple of riding longboards is to use your feet to take turns or gain more speed, and this efficiency lets your board get more speed with every kick and turns do not slow you down nearly as much either.

For installation purposes, the product comes packaged with some nuts that you need to use to attach the wheels to the handles of the truck. That means that you have to separately get the screws to attach the truck itself to the board.

However, the manufacturers are kind enough to send some of these screws if you do not have them and let them know in advance.

The manufacturer makes this particular truck set in a multitude of colors and the truck itself is pre-built, so you do not have to spend the time to put the different parts and components together. Whatever time you will spend in assembly is basically attaching the thing to your board and to attach the wheels to the handles. Little work!

Pros of Gullwing Sidewinder Longboard Truck

Gullwing sidewinder longboard truck makes for a very smooth ride, much softer than you would usually get with a regular truck. The rotation mechanics are very fluid, so it should also make for very smooth and easy turns, even the sharp ones.

While we are on the point of turning, the turns can be made with minimal movement of the body, allowing users to curve in very little time and with the short distance covered.

You can probably do 180s like it’s nobody’s business at this rate! Just don’t keep spinning around and around in a circle because you’ll only end up making yourself very dizzy in the process.

The choice of color also lets you choose colors for the truck that will match with your particular board’s color and design. The colors as a whole are quite lovely and pleasing to the eye, and understandably, you’ll want your prized longboard to look dashing along with excellent performance.

The design of the truck is also quite sleek and stylish, so your board should look pretty good even in the inverted view.

Sidewinder longboard truck itself is entirely adjustable, using different mounting pads and raising pads.

So, even if your longboard isn’t exactly 9 inches, you can definitely fit it on and fit it quite well and tight. If you’re still in confusion, just email them with a question, and they can tell you if it will fit your board.

The metal construction of the sector 9 gullwing sidewinder trucks is also substantial and sturdy itself. Your board is going to break long before the truck gives away and expect to use this truck with several boards over its lifetime!

The build and adjustability also help in creating a very stabilized motion, and you are not going to experience wobbles of any sort as long as all the parts fit in just right. That isn’t hard to get right either so expect a very reliable ride.

Cons of Sidewinder  longboard truck

A lot depends on the type of deck you are using. You get all of the benefits as mentioned above if you have a suitable deck only.

Unfortunately, because of the expansive list of skateboards that are longboards and available to the general consumer base, you are unlikely to find specific compatibility for a particular type of deck.

A problem of being so sturdy and made of metal is that it adds to the weight quite a bit. It is rated to be at a weight of 40 pounds and for a longboard setup that is honestly a significant weight to have at the back of your longboard. I mean, some longboards are not even ten pounds!

They do not go well with certain types of longboards that are made to bomb down slopes. They are quite dangerous in this regard because drop longboards typically have a lower center of gravity and could force the weight a bit too forward for stability when going downhill.

Verdict: Should You Buy Sector 9 Gullwing Sidewinder Truck?

All in all, it is quite a solid performer in a lot of different criteria.

The only situation where you might consider not opting for it is if you enjoy bombing down long slopes or hills. It should be excellent and safe for most other types of longboarding and skateboards so as long as that isn’t the purpose you intend to use it for. You won’t have any regrets getting this one I imagine.

Like I said earlier, just don’t run in circles and make yourself dizzy in the process! That, if anything, is the most likely thing that could get you into a crash!
